Painting a Week #2
Posted on January 13, 2008
The composition of this turned out well I thought. I did a few thumbnails in my sketch book before deciding on this one. I have posted the image in the the reference library on WetCanvas if anyone would like to use it.
Overall the drawing of the scene turned out fine. It is just my execution in pastels that needs a little more finess.

Ponting’s New Workshops
Posted on January 12, 2008
Dianna Ponting is having three workshops over January, February and March. The dates are Jan, 19th to 20th, Feb, 9th to 10th, March 29 to 30th, 2008 and April 26 to 27th.
I signed up for the workshops in February and March as there is so much to learn from her that one workshop is not enough.
Of course, I will post the results here after each class.
If you live in the lower mainland or will be visiting during those times, head on over to her website and get signed up if you can. There are only 8 students per class. It will be great!

Painting A Week #1
Posted on January 6, 2008
I am not close to finishing the large gerber painting yet so I decided to start a quick painting for this first week.
It marks a milestone for me, as this painting represents the first one I have completed from life. Sure I have sketched many things from life but I have never created a painting this way before.
I like the crop of the above image but the painting was completed on a full sheet of Canson as you can see from the images below.
One done, 51 to go.

Gerber - WIP
Posted on January 4, 2008
Sticking with my "Painting a Week" I started this painting for my wife. It is large enough, 19×26", to cover the electrical panel that sticks out like a sore thumb on our wall.
The composition is simple enough that it can be completed rather quickly. Given my time lately, though, it may not be complete for Sunday. If that is the case I will post a painting study of some sort to keep up to my goal.
Here is a most recent close up of the petals.
