PAW #12 :: Mortar and Pestle

I have this mortar and pestle in the studio for grinding up the collected pastel dust into a fine powder. The resulting powder is used to make new neutral pastel sticks.

PAW #11 :: Screw

I am late posting this one as I ended up being busy.

A simple object, the screw. This is a #8 robertson wood screw that I had in the studio for some reason or other. I laid out the sketch, used greys for the main shading, then moved into complimentary colours in and around the screw.

Here is my final for last weeks Painting A Week. It has been in the works for awhile now and it is at a stage that if I do any more work on it, it will just get all muddy.

It is one of those paintings that looks great reduced in size or from far away. :)

Fun with Light

Sure, not 100% pastel related. However, this is a shot from my new camera, a Nikon D60 that I purchased for taking pictures of reference items to paint as well as to document my paintings. Plus, it will come in handy in taking pictures of the family as well. :)

This is a 20 second exposure at night where I tried to write my name with a pen flashlight. I think it turned out very good for the first try.

I missed my Painting a Week, last week. So, this week I will be showing two off…  coming soon.

PAW #9 :: “Lumineux”

I finally competed this still life after two months of work and am including it into my Painting A Week. I have to say it has been one of the hardest to date due to all the glass. The dark blue glass was easy compared to the clear glass. In the end it all come together for a great composition.

I have entered this piece into a juried show with the FCA that will display in April. I am sure the competition will be steep, but I still have my hopes up.
