PAW #7 :: Fertility Idol
This is a fertility idol from the Cooke Islands. I was down there with my wife back in December of 1999.
I kept the painting loose on purpose as the idol is made out of a transucent green stone and if I were to focus too much on detail I would have been painting for a few days.
I am glad I have made it to week seven… 45 more to go. :)

Ponting Workshop :: Day 2
Phew, after lunch on the second day I was beat. I always wanted a workshop for three days, but two seems to be enough.
I was able to finish off the painting by lunch time. I enjoyed the process very much and learnt a few things in the process.
If you ever have the chance to take a Ponting workshop I highly recommend it. You will come out of it with a beautiful painting and a wealth of knowledge on pastel techniques.

Ponting Workshop #2 :: Invigorating
Being surrounded by retired woman chatting it up in an art class is very amusing. Eight students and I was the only male. Talk about testosterone suppression. :)
Great first class though with another coming tomorrow. To get back into a group to share and compare and to watch an established artist work is fantastic. Even better that the workshop was at her studio and I could look at all of her paintings I have never seen before along with some new ones she is working on.
My goal tomorrow is to finish off this cookie cutter with cherries and move onto a still life I brought with me. I’ll reveal that one a little later on.
The next picture is a work in progress animation and the one following that is a detail shot.

PAW #6 :: Binder Clip
I will be in a Dianna Ponting workshop all weekend and wanted to get my weekly painted before I ran out of time.
I picked up the first thing that I saw in my studio - a binder clip. Black is more difficult to paint than I thought it would be.
Painted on white 9×12" Canson Mi-Tienes.

Brush Study
I had to get into a painting last night even though it was late. I was looking for a simple still life object and saw this brush, picked it up and everything just fell into place. I love days like that.
It is 9×12" on blue/grey Canson Mi-Tientes. Very happy with the composition and the final outcome.
