Candy Apple 01 Painting WIP
Posted on November 1, 2007
Here is my latest work in progress. As promised in a previous post, I have started to paint the Candy Apples I photographed a couple months ago. So far I have about 4 hours into it.
Everything is progressing relatively well. Taking regular breaks has been the key with this painting as when I come back to it I always find something to correct.
I have been using Unison pastels for most of it but yern for some pastel pencils to get in all the detail I would like. It is 9×12″ on sanded LeCarte paper.
I will post more later…
UPDATE: added newest image.
Candy Apples and a Ponting Workshop
Posted on September 1, 2007
I will be taking a pastel workshop taught by Dianna Ponting in October and am trying to prepare some images to paint. Candy apples have such wonderfull highlights that I thought it would be a great subject.
This photo was taken outside instead of in a studio environment that would have allowed me more control over the lighting, however I like the way this photo turned out. We’ll see if I’ll paint this one or not. I might have to add to my selection of red pastels.
If you like this image and would like to paint it please contact me and I can send you a larger size reference photo.
If you are coming from myeclassonline.com I would like to know why so many from that site are visiting this thread. Please email me directly.

Apples
Posted on July 14, 2007
Two sketches of apples. The first one I focused more on the apple and it shows. Although the background colour compliments the apple well, it is unfinished and lacking definition.
The second sketch I started with the background, knowing that if I didn’t I would focus on the apples too much. There is a sense of harmony between the background and the apples, however there is lack of definition in the apples.
Please post your comments if you have any.
