PAW 21 :: Landscape
Posted on July 7, 2008
OK, so we are on week 28 and I am on painting 21. :) I am not too far behind that I cannot catch up.
This is a landscape on a sample of Richeson’s new Premium Pastel Surface (5×7" card) on gator board. The surface seemed textured enough, almost Wallis like, but after a wash of watercolour and a couple coates of pastels I noticed it didn’t have much tooth for my liking.
No worries, as this was just a test painting. The end result is alright but nothing I would hang on my wall.

Ponting Workshop :: Landscapes
Posted on April 29, 2008
I didn’t know what to expect going into this workshop as her specialty is still lifes. We worked on a demo painting where she got into painting clouds (very colourfull clouds) as well as some water.
Each student could work on either that particular scene or our own. Most of us chose to work on different landscapes and it provided a great variety in the class.
We were able to get Dianna’s help and advice on any areas of the painting that we needed help on. Needless to say, we all kept her very busy during the two days.
My first painting is the red barn set on a peninsula, provided by Cravia on WetCanvas. I am, overall, moderately satisfied with the outcome although I still want to go back and touch it up in places. Maybe even get the water refined.
The other landscape was from the WetCanvas reference library and I was attracted to it as it reminded me of my childhood growing up in Alberta. Much happier with this one but I will go in and rework the green mid-ground.

“Light Breeze” | Another Landscape
Posted on December 10, 2007
Worked on this for no more than two days. I was happy with it initially but as it progressed everything seemed to change. I’ll chalk it up to experience and move onto my next painting.
I guess you have to produce some duds here and there.

‘Solace” - Landscape WIP
Posted on December 6, 2007
This is my newest painting. 12×12" hardboard coated with a mix of gesso and 4F pumice.
Always wanted to paint water and overall it is not complicated at all. The more I paint, the more I see the world as I would paint it, not how it exists. Very odd.
Just a bit more work on this one, then it goes in as a submission for another juroured show.
The final version can now be seen in my gallery.
