Orange 06 :: Complete
Posted on May 12, 2008

Week 20, painting 19. After the Ponting workshop I took a week off to refresh. Her workshops are great and inspiring, but I am exhausted afterwards.
I started this orange back when the series was still fresh for me and finished it off in the last couple of days. I posted a small thumbnail above as I think the painting looks better small (or far away) than it does in it’s 6×8" size. You decide.

The fourth of the series, I particularly like the starkness and angle of the shadow. I did tweak the painting more after this shot was taken. When I re-shoot it I’ll post it up.

I am on a roll with these orange slices. I still have a few tweaks to make to this one but overall it is complete.

PAW #15 :: Orange Slice 02

Sixteen weeks into 2008 and I just finished number fifteen. Not bad, only one behind. I don’t really see it as being behind so much as seeing that I created fifteen paintings so far.
These last two have been great. The watercolour underpainting adds so much for me. It changes the entire dimension of painting. Whether or not to underpaint in a complimentary colour or just an opposite value. It’s a great blast. This one will be available in the gallery shortly.

This is another study of a soon to be much larger painting. I used a complimentary watercolour underpainting for the first time. I have been meaning to use this technique for some time now. I will call it a success. This will be available to purchase in the Gallery soon.
